Tina Campbell Obituary
Jan 24, 1963 - Jan 28, 2019
Turner, ME. - Tina Maria Campbell passed away peacefully and gracefully at her home with her husband of over 35 years, George Campbell, at her side on January 28, 2019, after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Tina was born on January 24, 1963, in Elyria, Ohio. She spent the early years of her life with her large Italian family in Elyria, which is just west of Cleveland near the shores of Lake Erie. She graduated from Elyria Catholic High School in 1981. Shortly after graduating cosmetology school, she met George while she was on Spring Break in Florida in early 1983. He was serving in the Navy, stationed on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington in Pensacola, FL. The two quickly fell in love and were married in St. Cloud, Florida on August 5, 1983. Upon the completion of George's military time in 1986, they moved to his home state of Maine and settled in the town of Turner, where they spent the remainder of their 35 years together. She loved her home on Pleasant Pond Road and all the beautiful birds and animals that frequently passed through her yard.
Upon moving to Maine, Tina began working at JC Penney in Auburn, Maine. She started in the jewelry department before advancing to office manager, a position she enjoyed for many years. She continued to enjoy her work after her MS diagnosis in 2002 but was forced to retired in 2009 when her MS symptoms became too difficult. She remained close to her many friends from Penney's long after she retired. She was a hard worker and a good listener, making time to listen to anyone, and dedicated to her friends and family.
Tina loved her dogs and loved to travel. Whether at home, camping, visiting family in Ohio, or spending times with friends, she loved life. She and George traveled all over Maine and the rest of the country seeking adventures and tasting good wines. She was also just as happy relaxing on the porch watching the many birds in her feeders with George and her dogs as she was sitting inside with them in front of a warm fire in the fireplace built by her dear friend Randy Wells.
Tina was predeceased by her father Vincent Smith, who also passed away from effects of MS in 1979. She was also predeceased by her mother Rosa Smith, who passed away in 2007. She is survived by her brother Tony and sister Andria, and their spouses and children. Her closest friends, Mona Bergeron and Ann Ho have been a tremendous comfort to her as she fought her battle. She enjoyed her friendship with Randy and Nancy Wells over the years, who were as much a family to her as her own.
She greatly loved her large family in Ohio, many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She adored her nephews / Godsons Dylan and Cullen Lajoie. She was very proud of them and cherished her visits with them. She also loved her in-laws, mother Gloria French and her husband Brian and father Tom Campbell and sister Sue Lajoie, and step-siblings, nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by several dogs that were like children to her. First Brandy and Candy that she adopted as puppies while living in Florida. and moved them to Maine with her. Then she had two Labrador Retrievers, Maggie, and Brady, that she loved for years. She then adopted a retired service dog named Koko that she cared for in his retirement years. Most recently she adopted a Labrador Rescue dog that she named Gia, who was with her when she passed.
She was very grateful for her nurses Crystal and Sonia from Beacon Hospice that helped her so much in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, Tina would ask that people make a donation to their local animal shelter in her name.
