Tokugawa Shogunate, 264, of Tokyo, Tokyo, passed in 1867. Tokugawa was born in 1603 in a nice non-unified Japan. During it's long, but too short life, this Shogunate had many important figures. One of the biggest figures in Tokugawa's history, would be the main man Tokugawa Ieyasu, he was the first Shogun, and was the reason for the empire as a whole. The structure that Tokugawa formed was similar to a structure found in feudal Europe, where at the top was an Emperor, followed by a Shogun, then the Daimyo, Samurai and at the bottom were Peasants. The Emperor was truly just a figure head throughout Tokugawa's short life, the Shogun truly held all the power. He had trade routes going through him known as the Edo Five Routes, it connected much of his empire. Even though they had these trade routes, they did not have a unifying currency. The main belief during this time was Shinto, it mainly focused on purity, harmony and a family balance. They had amazing art and architecture during their reign, much of the architecture focused on simplicity and purity, and most of their most famous buildings are Shinto and Buddhist in origin.
