Tressie S. CratonShreveport, LA - Tressie S. Craton, 88, passed away on October 22, 2017. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at First United Methodist Church in Shreveport. Officiating will be Dr. Carl Rhoads, First United Methodist Church in Shreveport and Reverend Richard Humphries, Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette. A reception will be held in the Church parlor following the service.Tressie was born on July 5, 1929 in Lisbon, Louisiana. She graduated from Lisbon High School and then attended business school. She met Ben while working at the library in Minden and they married in June of 1948. She faithfully followed him throughout the southeast during his work with Texaco taking care of him and their daughter. In every city they called home, Tressie became active in a local Methodist church, serving in the UMW, as well as other ministries. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Shreveport for over 40 years. She found great joy in cooking for friends and family. Tressie loved fishing with a cane pole and crickets and many of her favorite memories were in a small fishing boat on Lake Claiborne. She was happiest when gardening and working in the yard and could often be found outside late at night chasing squirrels out of the garden. She was preceded in death by Ben Craton, her loving husband of 66 years; parents; and sister, Elaine S. Blackwell. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine C. Sholar and husband, Steve; and grandchildren Ashley Dauenhauer (Jay) and Jeffrey Sholar.The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff and nurses of Village Health Care at The Glen. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Eternal Flame, First United Methodist Church.
