Tyvan SchmittTyvan Arthur Schmitt, 52, of Pocatello, passed away on July 15, 2016, in Salt Lake City at the University of Utah Hospital. He was born on September 10, 1963 in Pocatello, Idaho to Bill and Marsha Schmitt. He attended Syringa Elementary School while they lived in Pocatello. When he was ten, his family moved to Soda Springs where he attended Hooper Elementary School, Soda Springs Junior High School, and Soda Springs High School through his junior year. During his school years he played football and participated in wrestling. He also enjoyed scouting and received the rank of an Eagle Scout.In 1980, the family moved back to Pocatello where he completed his senior year at Highland High School and graduated in 1981.Tyvan joined the
United States Navy in 1984. During his training at Great Lakes, Illinois, he graduated at the top of his class with a 99.6 average. He then served on the USS Tisdale. He was awarded several medals during his service including: the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, .45 Caliber Expert Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation (Operational), Navy Achievement Medal, and .45 Caliber Sharpshooter Ribbon. He was honorably discharged in 1989.After his Navy service, he lived in San Diego, California. It was here he met his future wife, Doris Charlene Miller. They returned to Pocatello where they were married and had three children: Breeahnna, Madasun, and Cameron. They were later divorced.Tyvan worked construction for Larry Fisher early on. He later worked successfully in Amway achieving the Emerald Level. He then started a successful coupon book business which he continued for the last 22 years. He had books in Pocatello, Idaho Falls, and Twin Falls saving people money and promoting businesses. It was in this job that Tyvan made many friends and business acquaintances which he enjoyed tremendously. He married Lori Jo Berrett Grow on July 4, 2011. They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple in March of 2013. He was survived by his wife, Lori, children, Breeahnna, Madasun, and Cameron, four step children, Erika (Larry) Garza, Mark (Britteny) Grow, Taylor (Vanessa) Grow, and Rachel (Mike) Nelson, 16 grandchildren, his parents, Bill and Marsha Schmitt, two brothers, Scott (Claudia) Schmitt, Dustin (Janet) Schmitt, one sister, Terri (Dale) Haakma, and 8 nieces and nephews.Tyvan was a loving husband, doting father, and loyal friend. He was a true example of charity and brotherly kindness. He was passionate about life and lived it to the fullest. His adventurous and beautiful spirit will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22 at 11:00 am in the LDS Ward, 2925 Michelle St., Pocatello. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday evening in the Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 N. 15th Ave., Pocatello, 232-0542, and from 10-10:45 am Friday at the church.
