YORK Ulysses Jones, Jr., 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2015, at York Hospital surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of Gertha R. (Allen) Jones, his wife of 40 years. Mr. Jones was born on November 16, 1936, in Greensboro, N.C., to the late Ulysses and Amanda (Chestnut) Jones. For most of his life, he worked as a laborer at AMF, American Chain & Cable, and United Defense, retiring after 18 years with United Defense. "Jonesy" was well known in the community as the "camera man". He would visit the local bars and night clubs taking pictures with his Polaroid instant camera. On any weekend you could see Jonesy walking across town in his suit, fedora hat, and with his camera bag. Many people still have those old Polaroids serving as memories of great times. Some even paid tribute to Mr. Jones by sharing those old photos on social media. In addition to his wife, Ulysses is survived by his stepdaughter, Devorshia Lambert of Chicago, Ill.; brother, James Jones of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Mary Louise Jones of York; sisters-in-law, Maxine Ramsey and Mary Wright of York; brother-in-law, Homer Allen of York; special niece, LaTonga Bonner of York; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. A viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Boulding Mortuary, Inc., 471 Madison Ave., York, 17404, and a funeral will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mark K.
