BeGell, V. MarieV. Marie BeGell, age 87, of Corning, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Absolut Care of Three Rivers. She was born on November 3, 1929 in Elmira, the daughter of Warren and E. Vera (Courlis) Wetmore. She married Richard BeGell Jr. on July 15, 1950 at Grace United Methodist Church. Marie graduated from Northside High School and then she attended Fredonia College and graduated from Mansfield University earning a Master's Degree in Education specializing in music. She retired from the Corning-Painted Post School District where she worked as a music teacher and band director for several of the schools in the district. Marie was an active member of the Corning Area Retired Teachers Association where she held the office of president, wrote the newsletter and was the historian. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, a director of the bell choir, and she was a soloist there for many years. She had begun a tradition of singing "O Holy Night" every Christmas Eve at the church. Most of all, music was her life. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Richard, daughters, Janice (Tom) Wolff of Orchard Park, NY, Nancy B.
Smith of Corning, and Priscilla (Michael) McLane of Sewell, NJ, a cousin, Gwendolyn Egan, eight grandchildren, a step grandson, a great-grandson, nieces, nephews, and cousins and their families. Marie was predeceased by her son, Richard BeGell III, siblings, Arthur Wetmore and Betty Zupparo, and a step granddaughter.Family and friends are invited to call at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 West Pulteney St., Corning, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm. A celebration of Marie's life will follow there at 3:00 pm with Pastor Susan Wenner officiating.
