Mrs. Vada Gochenour Alexander, 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at the University of Virginia Medical Center. A native of Woodstock, VA, Vada was born on April 9, 1927 to the late Benjamin F. and Georgia Lee Stultz Gochenour.Vada graduated from RMH School of Nursing in 1946 and lived in Harrisonburg until 2005, when she moved to Bridgewater. After raising her family, she worked for 13 years as an industrial nurse for Dunham Bush. Vada was a member of Muhlenberg Lutheran Church and she graciously lived out her faith in love and service to others. Her favorite hobbies were sewing and growing flowers. She was the founder of the Harrisonburg - Rockingham Parkinson Support Group, and was known by both residents and staff throughout the Bridgewater Retirement Community as the "Plant Lady" who nurtured and watered all the potted plants. On August 28, 1948 Vada married Joseph Alfred Alexander, who preceded her in death January 29, 1999. She is survived by a son, Joseph Philip Alexander and his wife Nancy of Chandler, AZ; and a daughter, Dorethia âDeaã Baldwin and her husband Guy of North Augusta, SC.Vada has six grandchildren, Eva Alexander, Meg Dunn, Benjamin Alexander, Alex Baldwin, Joey Baldwin and Ricky Baldwin; two great grandsons, Nolan and Sawyer Alexander; and two step granddaughters, Amie Stewart and Katie Rogers. Her twin sister, Vera and husband Dr. Byrd Teter live in Franklin, WV. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Muhlenberg Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Humphrey and the Rev. Brett Davis will officiate. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
