Valentina Parra Rodriguez, of El Paso Texas, passed away on Thursday, October 5 after a brave fight with cancer. She was born on February 14, 1942 in Valle de Allende, Chihuahua and subsequently moved to Cd. Juarez and Chihuahua, Mexico to earn degrees in Elementary and High School Education. She met Rodolfo Parra in Mexico City, and they were married on July 30, 1973. Together they were blessed with sons Ismael and Omar, and daughter Edna. In 1986, she moved to El Paso where she began a new life with her family. Valentina completed an Associate's Degree in Math and worked as a substitute teacher for 25 years. Alongside her teaching career, she operated a successful real estate business with her husband. Valentina was a great educator who taught justice, compassion and how to embrace life to its fullest. She loved to dance, teach, laugh, and most importantly, advocate and fight for what's right. She was a successful businesswoman, who never believed in a day off. If you ever had the pleasure of meeting her, you were either laughing, dancing, learning something new, or getting hustled. She was an active and dedicated member of the Roger Bacon Franciscan Seminary and often volunteered at the Parkinson's Association of El Paso. Valentina is survived by her children, Ismael (Teresita) of Rowllett, TX, Omar (Maryann) of New York City, and Edna (Lance) of Austin TX; grandchildren Isabela, Ileana, and Itzel; and siblings Eulalio and Angelica of El Paso, TX. She is preceded in death by her husband Rodolfo and her brother Ismael. Her children will remember her as a selfless, driven, strong mother who made every sacrifice possible to make a better life for her family. A viewing is scheduled at Martin Funeral Home East on Sunday, October 9th from 5 pm - 9 pm with a rosary at 7pm. A celebratory mass will be held at Roger Bacon Franciscan Seminary on Monday, October 10th at 10am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate.
