Valerie Marie Joshua , age 89 of Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday,July 2, 2019. She was born to the late Gene Joshua and Sallie Marie Joshua on August 8, 1930.

Valerie attended Louisiana Montessori Public Charter School, before attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was an active member in both her school and community when she served on the Board of Health in Louisiana for 20 years and served on the fundraising committee for the Cancer Society for almost 10 years. 

Despite her hectic schedule, family and friends were Valerie’s passion and delight. She grew up spending summers and holiday vacations with her brother, Percy,and her two younger cousins, Gwen and Stacey. She enjoyed hosting garden parties at her house before she married the love of her life, Daniel Lewis, in 1954. The couple moved to another house in Louisiana where they continued to live their lives together while raising their two children, Marie and Gary.

Valerie is survived by her husband, two children, and eighteen grandchildren; and a number of other loving relatives and close friends.

Valerie  requested for an intimate burial and funeral not far from her home. She wanted for her family and friends to celebrate her going home to Glory.The family wishes to thank all of those who cared for her during her last days. For those who have known Valerie in her fruitful journey with us, her graveside service will be held at Laurel Land Cemetery on Saturday, July 6, 2019.
