PRESTON, Idaho - VaLora Christensen Mecham, 84, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, in Preston, Idaho. She was born on Aug. 23, 1924, in Mink Creek, Idaho the eighth of nine children born to Lars Henry and Serena Johannesen Hammersmark Christensen. She married Burnise Mecham on Nov. 4, 1946, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on April 14, 1952. They were blessed with four children: Linden, Carolyn, Trudy and Marlene. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings throughout her life. She and Burnise were ordinance workers in the Logan Temple. She was a volunteer for the Pink Ladies, the Kiwanas Club, Senior Citizens and other organizations. She worked as a custodian at Idaho State University, retiring after 17 years. She enjoyed traveling and visited many places internationally. She enjoyed fishing and camping and always bragged about big fish she caught. She also enjoyed quilting and genealogy and had a talent for remembering family birthdays. VaLora is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Burnise; one son, Linden (Susan) Mecham of West Jordan, Utah; three daughters: Carolyn (Jack) Younger of Caldwell, Idaho; Trudy (Sidney) Clinkscales of Pocatello, Idaho; Marlene (David) Elgaaen of Layton, Utah; a brother, Jewel (Julie) Christensen, of Bountiful, Utah; 17 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers: Allen, Lester, Lloyd and Carl; and three sisters: Genet, Hazel and Elma. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2009, in the Preston 7th Ward LDS Chapel, 155 N. 200 West in Preston with Bishop Jeff Elgin conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida in Preston and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.
