Vanessa Dominique Valencia Cummings, 25 years old, along with her husband Brandon Joshua Cummings, 24 years old, their children Dawson Chase Cummings, 10 months old and their unborn son Brandon Joshua Cummings Jr., passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2015.Vanessa was born in Amarillo,Texas on Dec. 1, 1989. Later on moved with her parents to Chacon and was raised there. She graduated from Mora High School and proceeded to attend Luna Vocational Tech and New Mexico Highlands University in Las Vegas.Brandon was born on Aug. 22, 1991 in Lumberton, North Carolina. Both Brandon and Vanessa served in the Army along with a one-year tour in Afghanistan; Brandon was an E-5 Sergeant and Vanessa was an E-4 Specialist. They met in the military and got married soon after their return to the United States. They resided in Seattle, Wash. where their son Dawson Chase Cummings was born on Aug. 17, 2014. They were in the process of moving to New Mexico.Dawson was the light of his mother's and father's world. His parents spent countless hours making him laugh and they enjoyed every moment they had with him. His mother called him a "giggle box" as he would laugh at the slightest display of anything playful or funny.Her Catholic faith and her family were at the center of Vanessa's life. She loved music, singing and playing the guitar. She had a unique ability to see humor in the most unusual situations, always keeping her family laughing with her story-telling and re-enactments.Vanessa was preceded in death by her grandparents: Marcelino and Lourdes Herrera; her uncle and aunt: Lorenzo and Josie Herrera, and her cousin: Miranda Serna.Vanessa is survived by her parents: Ferdinand and Alfrida Valencia; her siblings: Zachery (who also served a tour in Afghanistan at the same time as Vanessa), Angel, Ferdinand Jr., Julius and Candace Valencia and her nephew and Godson: Zachery Valencia Jr.; her grandparents:Wilfred and Ruth Valencia; and numerous uncles aunts and cousins.Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday at St. Gertrude Church in Mora. Funeral Services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Saturday also at St. Gertrude Church in Mora with Father George V. Salazar as celebrant.
