Vaniece Carmichael JacobySan AngeloVaniece Carmichael Jacoby, beloved teacher, mother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away Aug. 11, 2017. Vaniece was born on March 29, 1928, in McCoy, Texas, to Reece H. Carmichael and Zula Nimmo Carmichael. She attended elementary schools in Floydada and Menard, Texas and graduated from Eden High School in Eden, Texas in 1945. She was the valedictorian of her graduating class and was voted "most beautiful girl" of the senior class.Vaniece married Aaron Jacoby on Sept. 7, 1947, in Eden Texas. Vaniece attended Texas State College for Women and North Texas State University in Denton, Texas. She graduated from Texas A&M in Kingsville with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. She received her Master's degree in Education from Sul Ross State College in Alpine, Texas. Vaniece taught in Kingsville, Rotan and Alpine before moving to San Angelo in 1962, and she taught for 44 years before retiring in 1992. Vaniece received numerous awards and honors for her dedication and success as an educator. The San Angelo Texas State Teachers Association honored her as "Teacher of the Year" for the Elementary Schools of San Angelo in 1984. She also received a State P.T.A Life Membership from the parents of Travis Elementary. The principal of Travis said, "Teaching is Mrs. Jacoby's life. After 25 years, she still remembers all of her students by name. Mrs. Jacoby thinks of children as individual people. Her passion for teaching has made a difference in the lives of more than 700 students who were in one of her classes.Vaniece traveled all over the world, enjoying the people, their culture and history. She loved to get together with her friends to play bridge. She also loved to meet with different groups or individual friends to share a meal. She loved to be around people. Elizabeth Anderson Stanley described Vaniece perfectly with these words, "She has achieved success who has lived well, laughed often, and loved much."Gardening was another interest that kept Vaniece digging, planting, nurturing and sharing plants. She was an accomplished gardener. Vaniece was a long-time member of the San Angelo First Baptist Church, and attended an adult Sunday School class, as well as, adult Bible classes. She volunteered at the San Angelo Community Medical Center and at the San Angelo Visitor Center.Vaniece was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, D.T. Carmichael and his wife, Margie Lapp Carmichael; brother-in- law Sherman Huie; and niece Jan Martin.Vaniece is survived by her son, Jackie Reece Jacoby, of San Angelo; sister Marie Carmichael Huie of Dallas; three nieces, Sheryl Huie Culley and husband Steve of Orlando, Florida, Melody Carmichael Schotte of Hurst and Tammy Carmichael Glover and husband Michael of Albany; five great-nieces, Amanda Culley Bontrager of Sarasota, Florida, Stephanie Culley Roberts of Jacksonville, Florida, Lauren Vaniece Corser of Clearwater, Florida, Katherine Martin of McKinny and Bonnie Glover of Albany; three great-nephews, Robert Martin of Abilene, Mica Glover of San Antonio, Texas and Jeremiah Glover of Hurst, Texas; three great-great-nieces; three great-great-nephews; and many first cousins and friends.The family will have the burial in Eden Cemetery in Eden, Texas.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (M.M.R.E.) 383 Main Ave., 5th floor, Norwich, CT 06851 or to the .Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online register book at
