On Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at 10:29 a.m., at Inland Valley Hospital in Wildomar, Calif., Velma Berg Robledo left this earth to join our Lord. She was born on April 29, 1955, in Las Vegas to John Paul Berg and Viola Romero Berg of Mora. After graduating from Mora High School, Velma left New Mexico to work and make her life in southern California. In 1982, upon her father's death in Mora, she invited her mother, Viola, to live with her in Oceanside, Calif.Velma married her best friend and love, Juan Robledo, in 1991, in a military wedding. Juan was on active duty in the Marine Corps in Camp Pendleton, Calif. During her very active life, Velma worked as a hostess for Japanese students touring the United States, and she owned and operated a successful home-based crafts business. She was active in helping support Marine families during their deployments out of Camp Pendleton. As she always said, "the Marine Corps takes care of its own." In addition to being a loving wife and beloved sister, she was a much-loved and compassionate caregiver for her aging mother, Viola.Velma was preceded in death by her father, John Paul Berg. She is survived by her spouse, Juan Robledo (USMC Retired-Gunnery Sergeant) and mother, Viola Berg, and brothers and sisters: John E. Berg, Albuquerque, Veronica R. Peña (Ben), Sun City, Calif., Virginia Berg-Taylor (George), Jefferson, Ark., Bert W. Berg, Mora, and Ivan D. Berg (USMC Retired-Master Sergeant) (Toni), Garden Grove, Calif. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, Catherine Berg Morris, Michael Berg, Sandra Berg, Robert Berg, Vanessa Romero, Valerie Taylor Erkman, Reyes Berg, Shawn Paul Berg, and great-nieces and nephew, Valene Olvera, Arlene Olvera, and Nicholas "Nico" Erkman. She also leaves behind numerous other family members and friends.Velma will be remembered for her great big love of life, sense of humor, and her generous and caring nature. She was a force to be reckoned with, and she will be dearly missed by everyone whose lives she touched.A rosary was recited by Fr. Tom Burdick on Saturday, March 23 at 4 p.m. at Temecula Valley Moose Lodge/Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, 36515 Briggs Rd., Winchester, Calif. Fr. James Sanchez will preside over the funeral mass in Mora, New Mex., at St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church, at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 26. Burial will take place immediately following the mass at the cemetery in Golondrinas.In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be sent to: St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church, P.O. Box 599, Mora, NM 87732. Be sure and note on your check that your donation is for the "St. Vincent de Paul Fund" to help people.
