Ven MomDes MoinesVen Mom, 82, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his children & grandchildren in Des Moines, Iowa on February 12, 2017. He was born on September 24, 1934 to Noeun Mom and Uch Thep in Svay Rieng Province in Cambodia. He moved to Des Moines, Iowa in December of 1981 where he spent the rest of his life.Ven was very involved and influential with the Angkor Wat Friendship Association in the Cambodian community where he opened his home to many refugee families to live. In addition, he worked for the state of Iowa for 26 years before retiring from the Iowa Department of Transportation in 2010. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching WWE. He loved to host and make others happy. He was full of life. Ven is survived by his loving wife, Seam, of 62 years; his 8 children, Marino (Phon), Saronny (Kiry), Sovann (Daranny), Vannarith (Chandara), Rithiya (Chaiya), Sokha, Sokhakiry (Boundi), Bopha (Sullivan); 29 grandchildren, Samath, Phanna (Jack), Vuthy, Thyda (Quang), Konnetha, Konneka, Dyna (Andrew), Somealear, Maretta, Jessica, Monica, Jonathan, Jovi, Moni, Melissa, Matthew, Megan, Evan, Cobi, Keely, Isabella, Asia, Averiana, Cayden, Alivia, Sullivan, Maxwell, Campbell, Valentina; 15 great grandchildren, Gabriella, Keilani, Kya, Phoebe, Enzo, Jackson, Linh, Davee, Katalina, Addison, Adelyne Aubrey, Oliver, Kamden, Knolen; 1 sister, Sarun Mom; 1 brother, Vun Mom; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Sok Mom, Chea Mom, Son Mom, Von Mom; 3 sons, Moniroth, Monirothana, Sokhom; 1 grandson, Samoeun Kem. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway; 3601 Westown Parkway; West Des Moines, IA 50266. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11 a.m. in the East High School Student Center (small gymnasium); 815 E. 13th Street; Des Moines, IA 50316. A burial service will follow immediately at Laurel Hill Cemetery.
