Fortmeyer, Vera Faye (Rogers) was born on a farm near Scotch Grove, IA in Jones County on March 17, 1924, to Glenn and Minna Rogers the fourth child of eight children. She died Friday, August 26, 2016, in Wichita, KS, at the age of 92 years, five months, and 10 days. On July 17, 1940, Vera married Loyal Fortmeyer in Atwood, Kansas. Loyal and Vera had been married over 58 years at the time of his death in 1999. To this union were born five children: Charles, Beverly, Roger, Rana, and Rita. Vera is survived by her five children and their spouses, Charles Fortmeyer and wife, Susanne of Nauheim, Germany, Beverly Barthule and husband, John of Geneva, NE, Roger Fortmeyer and wife, Sherry of Colorado Springs, CO, Rana Challacombe and husband, William of Belton, MO, Rita Beck and husband, Donald of Wichita; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; brother, Harland Rogers of St. Francis, KS; sister-in-law, Edith Rogers of St. Francis, KS; and numerous other friends and relatives. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Loyal, her parents, one sister and five brothers. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. MDT Friday, September 2, at the Bateman Funeral Home in Goodland. Services for Vera will be held at 10:30 a.m. MDT Saturday, September 3, at the United Methodist Church with Reverend Lyndelle Linde presiding. Burial will follow the services in the Goodland Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Goodland UMC or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.
