Verda Marie KarnMay 17, 1921 - November 6, 2016TYNER - Verda Marie Karn, 95, of Tyner, Indiana, died peacefully inher sleep on Nov. 6, 2016 in San Diego, Ca.She was born on May 17, 1921, near Walkerton, In., to EthelGordon Haag and John C. Haag. She graduated from Tyner HighSchool in 1939. She was married at home to Stanley Karn onDecember 14, 1941.Verda, and her husband, owned and operated Karn´s GeneralStore for 23 years in Tyner In, where they sold groceries,hardware, and appliances. In 1970, they opened Karn´s TV andAppliance Sales and Service, in Walkerton, In, where, formany years, they sponsored bowling teams in Plymouth and inWalkerton. They retired in 1985, and spent their winters attheir former home in Cape Coral, Fl.Verda was a charter member of the Tyner Rebekah Lodge #865 inTyner. She served as Noble Grand in 1948, and was districtdeputy president of District #23 in 1961 and 1978. She wasactive in the Rebekah Assembly of Indiana, serving as anappointed officer many times. She also served as chairman ofthe reception committee for four presidents, and was chairmanof the memorial services for the State Assembly three times.Verda also served her community in many other capacities.Those included in the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarchs Militant ofCanton #9 in South Bend, In,. the Walkerton Business Women,the General Federation Woman´s Community Club of Walkerton,and the Walkerton Chamber of Commerce.That service extended to Florida were she was an associatemember of the Fort Myers Rebekah lodge #68, an AssociateMember of the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant of Royal #10in Fort Myers, and a member of the Cape Coral Woman´s Club 85in Cape Coral, Florida.She was a member of the Blissville Church of the Brethern inPlymouth, In and of The Christ The Servant Church of theBrethren in Cape Coral, Fl.Stanley predeceased her on September, 1, 2001.Verda is survived by her daughter, Sandy Karn, of San Diego,Ca; two brothers, Verl Haag and his wife Mayme, of Walkerton,In; Joel Haag and his wife, Barbara, of Ocala, Ga; a sister,Zelma Saxton, of Plymouth, In; and a brother, Claude Haag;two grandchildren, Todd Breighner of Gettysburg, Pa; and TammyMattes of Landisville, Pa; and by 8 great grandchildren, aswell as numerous nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by Gordon Haag (brother), BlancheBreece Wolfe (sister), and her parents.Services will be 10:00 am at the Blissville Church on Friday, November 18, at 6250 SPRUCE TRAIL PLYMOUTH, IN 46563. A Memorial Service by the Tyner Rebekah Lodge will follow.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to theTyner Rebekah Lodge #865 in Tyner, In.
