Vern C. BloxhamMay 14, 1926 - July 12, 2016Pocatello...Heaven has gained an angel, Vern C Bloxham, 90, passed away on July 12, 2016. Vern was born on May 14, 1926 (and twin sister Verna Robinson) in Pocatello Idaho, a son of Cluff and Lila Bloxham. He was raised and educated in Downey and Virginia and graduated In May 1944. He was the class president and president of the FFA.He was drafted into the Army and did his basic training in Camp Hood Texas. He fought in WWII in Okinawa on the front lines with the 96th infantry division, 381 regiment Company C has a B.A.R man. He was one of 14 men left of the 280 that served. He was wounded on June 18, 1945. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.He married Dolores Kent of Malad Idaho on May 14, 1948 and later sealed in the temple. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. They have four children: Jan Burkett, Craig Bloxham, Jill Bloxham and Juli Bloxham. They have six grandchildren: Alaine (Greg) Moulos, Audra Black (Kelly), Angela (Keith) Sherman, Amy (Flagen) Elshani, Challis C Bloxham, and Cameo Bloxham. They have 12 great grand children and one great great grandson.Vern was the owner of Bloxham Oil Company and was very active in community affairs at Downey. He was an American Legion Member, Lions Club member, Rod and Gun Club member and a Boy Scout leader, Mayor of Downey 1975, and General Manager of Star Valley Ranch in 1985. He was a past commander of the American Legion and a District Governor of the Lions Club.He was an avid skier and joined the National Ski Patrol in 1958, he served on the Red Cross Board in Pocatello. He also loved golfing, was a pilot, enjoyed hunting and fishing!He and his wife served a Mormon mission in Monahans Texas in 1993. He enjoyed spending winter time at their home in Ivins Utah and on the golf course in Star Valley Ranch Wyoming.Vern was very patriotic, inspirational and loved by many.He is survived by his wife Dolores, twin sister Verna Robinson, brother Monte (Glenda) Bloxham, and sister June (Reed) Morrison and all of his children and grandchildren. He was proceeded in death by his parents and brother Dean "Joe" Bloxham.A very special "Thank You" to Encompass hospice and the wonderful care aides....Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 12 noon in the Downey LDS 1st Ward Chapel. Friends may visit with the family at the church on Saturday morning from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Cambridge Cemetery.
