We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Vernal Hayes, who was born on April 5, 1944. Vernal was the beloved son of Augusta Ransom. He was the third of four sons. He confess his faith at an early age. Later, he passed away on April 29, 2024 in North Chicago, Illinois. Mother, Augusta Ransom and brothers Harvey, Andrew, and James Hayes, grandson Javon Hayes who proceeded him in death.

Vernal is survived by his five children, Ernest Thomas, Toya Thomas, Marnita Hayes, Vernetta Hayes, and Katrina Hayes. He was also a loving grandfather to nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, three special grandchildren along with their grandchildren who was dear to his heart, along with host of family and friends.

Vernal dedicated many years of his life to working at CTA, where he performed a variety of duties before retiring serving 25 years. He was also a passionate advocate for animals and dedicated his time to helping and believing in feeding God's animals.

Vernal wanted nothing but for his family to have a wonderful life. He was a definitely a beautiful man inside and out. He was sincere, caring, generous, and good hearted. He showed genuine compassion to all. In his free time, Vernal enjoyed cooking and sharing his delicious meals with family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
