Vernon H. "Hub"DurstBURGOON: Vernon H. "Hub"Durst, 85, of Burgoon, passed away on Saturday morning, March 25, 2017 in his home.He was born on August 11, 1931 in Amsden to the late Hazel (Keckler) and Leroy Durst. He married Helen Gillig on August 22, 1953 at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria, and she survives him along with their children, Doyle of Bettsville, OH, Duane, of Kansas, OH, Dayna and Daniel, both of Fostoria; eight grandchildren, Breanna, Amber, Trista, Tyler, Paige, Dual, Joshua, and Tanya; 16 great-grand-children; a sister, Rosella Ferguson, of Fostoria; a brother, Berlyn "George" Durst, of Kansas, OH; and numerous nieces & nephews.He was also preceded in death by two sons, Douglas and Delbert Durst, two infant brothers, Glen and Leroy Durst, brothers, Leland, Robert and Royce Durst, and five sisters, Geneva Durst, Bernice Tedrow, Fern Bricker, Edna Vance and Deloris Jean Miller.Vernon was a U.S. Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient, having served during the Korean Conflict, for which our nation will be forever grateful.Hub was a "workaholic". He was a lifelong farmer, and co-owner of D&D hauling for 56 years. He also worked for Union Carbide, retiring after 36 years of service. In his leisure time he enjoyed antique cars, and watching westerns. He was also a member of the American Legion in Bettsville, and the United Sportsman's Club, in Fostoria.Visitation will be held from 2-8 pm on Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at MANN-HARE-HOENING Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, where a wake service will begin at 7:30 pm.Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 am on Wednesday, at Kansas St. James Parish, Fostoria.Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Millersville where The United Veterans of Fostoria will perform military honors.Memorial contributions may be considered to ProMedica Hospice, the ProMedica Dorothy L.
