Johnson, Vernon (Vern) IraVernon (Vern) Ira Johnson, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 at Jack and Engrid Meng Unity Hospice Residence in De Pere, WI from severe congestive heart failure. Vern was born on November 25, 1927 in Rhinelander, WI. He grew up in the Eagle River and the Clearwater Lake area before later residing back again in Rhinelander, then in Coleman and finally in Green Bay. Vern was the son of Gwendolyn R. Johnson and Benhart M. Johnson. He was preceded in death by his first wife Shirley Ann Johnson, a daughter Leslie Ri Johnson and a sister Patricia (Roy) Schroeckenthaler.He is survived by his loving wife: Mildred Grace Johnson. Sister: Carol (Dale) Klemp. Children: Danny (Harriet) Johnson, Gwendolyn Johnson, Verna (Richard) Kurowski, Nancy (Clifford) Evans, Bobby Ziesmer, Brian Johnson, Dana (David) Scheel. Grandchildren: Michelle Evans, Kari Farmery, Jeremy Johnson, Crystal Evans, Jamie Kurowski, Lindsay Contreras, Danielle Crocker, Erin Orde, Miranda Scheel and Trevor Scheel along with 11 great-grandchildren.Vern was proud to have been a paratrooper in the 82nd airborne during WWII, he provided many years of service as a truck driver and tour guide with Schneider National Transportation in Green Bay, WI. Vern was well known for his easy going demeanor, warm friendliness and on-going sense of humor. Vern belonged to the Green Bay Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He enjoyed golfing, classic movies, a variety of old classic music and along with spending time with his family he also loved traveling on the open road. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 7th, at Gaffney-Busha Funeral Home in Eagle River, WI and officiated by Pastor Bill Ochs. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m. until time of Service which will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow.A special thank you to the special staff at the Jack and Engrid Meng Unity Hospice Residence for their dedicated and compassionate care.
