Vernon Leroy Walters, 77, of Laurel Hill passed away on Monday, Aug. 26, 2013 at Morrison Manor.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Don Malpass. A private family burial will follow the service.
He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart of 59 years Delores Ann Morgan Walters, three sons: Vernon L. Walters Jr. (Renee`) of Lexington, Greg Walters (Lucy) of Mt. Gilead, and Mike Walters (Joan) of Laurel Hill, daughter Sharon Bray of Laurinburg, brother Walter Eugene Walters (Shirley) of Meansville, Ga., nine grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Vernon was born on Nov. 2, 1935 in Scotland County to the late Will and Lela Langley Walters. He was an Eagle Scout, loved to golf with his buddies, enjoyed the beach life with family, and was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan. After serving his country with four years in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War, he received a bachelor's degree in biology and chemistry from Pembroke State University. He was an Employee of Fieldcrest Carpet Mill for 25 years and ended his career with 11 years at Champion Sports apparel as plant manager.

Visitation will be from 3-4 p.m. on Thursday at Laurel Hill Baptist Church preceding the service.
