Vernon "Vern" Leroy Stumpf, 74, of Iliff, CO passed away peacefully on October 2, 2016 in Sterling, CO. Memorial services will be at 10:00 am Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Iliff Community Center. Inurnment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Vern was born on December 22, 1941 in Crook, CO. He grew up in Crook and graduated as a Crook Mallard in 1959. Shortly after school, he began farming alongside his father, and it was during this time he met his wife Pat. They were married for 54 wonderful years. He later went on to farm with Harold Kautz for 21 years. Along with his passion for farming was his passion for the Caliche Buffaloes. He dedicated the rest of his life to Caliche whether it was prepping the football field or supporting the basketball teams in Pueblo. He was a well-respected man in the Caliche community and was loved by many. Vern is survived by his wife Pat, son Mike with wife Naomi, and daughter Tammy with husband Bill. Grandkids Kelsey Stumpf and Shane Gertner, Tasha Holloway with husband Josh, Corey Stumpf with wife Ashley, Clairesa Lane with husband Ryan, Lindsey Troester with husband Mitchell, Shaney, Colbey and Codey Stumpf. Great-grandkids Colton, Dalton and Skye Holloway, Camden and Andre Gertner, Aubree Lane and Carter Troester. Brothers Norm Stumpf with wife Margorie, Dean Stumpf with wife Jane and Don Stumpf with wife Peg. The family suggest, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Vern Stumpf Memorial Fund in care of Tennant Funeral Home, PO Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
