This obituary is administered by:
McAllen Vicente Vicinaiz After a short illness Vicente Vicinaiz, 83, entered heaven on October 18th, 2016. The Lord said "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Vicente was born on September 1st, 1933 in Los Fresnos, Cameron County, Texas. Vicente was preceded in death by his son, Virgil Vito, his brother Juan and his parents Inez and Anita Vicinaiz. He is survived by his loving wife, Maria de la Luz, whom he constantly doted upon, his daughters; Velina Celeste Holler, Vanessa Vidette Joiner, and his son Victor Vincent (Ileana) Vicinaiz, his sisters; Mercedes (Eduardo+) Cantu, Guadalupe (Erwin+) Scott, Andrea (Guadalupe) Gonzales, and his brothers Miguel (Manuela) Vicinaiz, Jesus (Socorro) Vicinaiz, Adalberto (Marie) and Gil (Ma. Pura) Vicinaiz. Vicente is also survived by his grandchildren; Johnathan Dee Holler, Victor V. Vicinaiz II, Sara Isabel Vicinaiz and Charles Vincent Joiner and numerous nieces and nephews. Born amidst the fertile fields of Los Fresnos, he faced a fierce category 3 hurricane only 2 days after coming into this world. On the evening the hurricane hit and fearing the worst for their lives and very modest home, his Grandfather took him and the family out of the home and into a grove of palm trees to weather the storm. So began his life of trials and tribulations. He worked his way through school, and like many of his contemporaries he toiled in the fields, hoeing, harvesting vegetables and produce, and picking cotton. After graduating from Los Fresnos High School in 1950 at the tender age of 16 he enrolled at Texas Southmost College in Brownsville, obtaining his associates degree in 1952. He began teaching students only a few years younger than him that same year at the B.I.S.D. Very shortly thereafter he was drafted into the Army and was shipped to Japan and then Korea. He was there almost two years. After his return, he was awarded numerous commendations and honorably discharged. He then attended Texas A & I University in Kingsville graduating in 1956. It was there he met his close friend Nieves Garza who later introduced him to the San Isidro community and his wife, Maria de la Luz, whom he married in 1957. He began his career as a school
teacher, teaching in Brownsville, San Isidro, La Joya and Mission. Also, in 1967 he obtained his Master's degree at Texas A & I. He also served as the Elementary and Junior High principal in San Isidro and thereafter as Superintendent in Progresso and Santa Rosa. In addition to teaching and stewarding students in Cameron, Starr and Hidalgo County and serving the community, his other interests included ranching and hunting. He was a well read and well liked man who it could be truly said never met a person he did not like. He was a great conversationalist and all marveled at the extent and number of his friends and of his memory and recollection of events. Upon retirement in 1995 he resided in McAllen and later Mission. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, relatives and visiting with friends. He also greatly assisted and advised his son in all matters, visiting with him almost every day. He especially enjoyed ranching and tending to the family ranch and cattle in Starr County. He will be sorely missed. Pallbearers will be his nephews: Pablo Trevino Jr., Pedro Alfonso Trevino, his grandchildren Victor Vincent II, Johnathan Holler, Charles Vincent Joiner, his son Victor V. Vicinaiz and his brother Gil Vicinaiz. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Nieves Garza, Noel T. Garcia, Frank Garza, Leo Garza, and Carlos Gonzalez. Visitation will be at Ric Brown Funeral Home October 20th, 2016 from 1 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary. Funeral service will be at 9 a.m. Friday October 21st at St. Paul Catholic Church in Mission. Interment will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Ric Brown Funeral Home of Mission is in charge of arrangements.
