Vicki Ward Hearne Obituary

Dec 28, 1956 - May 13, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Vicki Ward HearneVicki Ward Hearne passed away unexpectedly on May 13, 2017, at the age of 60. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, May 18, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, followed by the Rite of Committal at Forest Park Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit the family afterward at their home. Vicki was born on December 28, 1956, in Dyersburg, Tennessee, and reminded everyone she was from God's Country. A family tradition, she followed her parents and brother to LSU and never left Louisiana, meeting her future husband there. She was a faithful Catholic after her reception into the Roman Catholic Church in 1997 and later became a Dame of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.A gourmand, Vicki was passionate about cooking, rooted in the French style, and poured her love of all in the dishes she served, especially to the priests of the Diocese of Shreveport. Her method was organized chaos but the result always magnifique. Among her culinary inventions was the "Dyersburger," named after her hometown -- a 24-inch, ten-pound cheeseburger cooked to perfection over medium-high heat on a Weber kettle, and flipped with a cookie sheet. Her friends looked forward to her elaborate, themed dinners, including a Chinese New Year feast, and a recreation of the Titanic's final 10-course meal. Among her other hobbies, she enjoyed needlepoint, rescuing dogs and cats, and spontaneous weekend excursions in her VW (her initials) convertible. She was the genuine article, salt of the earth, warm, funny, bright, irreverent, God-fearing, God-loving, crass, loud and instantly your best friend for the night. She never met a martini she didn't like (Belvedere, straight up, slightly dirty, with a twist, olives on the side, i.e. no "hitchhikers"). She was a proud alumna of LSU and took comfort in knowing she would not meet Ole Miss in the afterlife. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert William Ward and mother, JoAnn Johnson Ward; her brother, Robert William Ward Jr.; and her nephew, Dennis Edgar Permenter Jr. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, William Lake Hearne; her sister, Jill Ward Morris; children, Ann Elizabeth Hearne and William Lake Hearne Jr.; daughter-in-law, Colleen Smith Hearne; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. In lieu of flowers the family request donation to the society of St. Vincent De Paul, care of The Cathedral of St. John Berchmans, or to Christian Service.

It is comforting to know that the God of all comfort will completely remove all grief at the time of the earthly resurrection. The Bible at John 5:28,29 comforts us with the words, “Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will come out.” God promises that “he will do away with death forever,” and God will “wipe away all the tears from all faces.” Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:3,4
