HILLIARD, Ohio — Victor John 'Vic' Vander Roest, age 63, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away Thursday morning. February 20, 2014. at Doctors Hospital West in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on November 28, 1950. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the oldest son of the late John Edward and Betty Jane (Heath) Vander Roest. Vic has lived with his surviving wife, Karen Sue (Pueschel) Vander Roest in the Columbus, Ohio, area (Hilliard) for the past six years. Vic was a graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School where he ran cross-country, and of
Michigan State University, where he studied the social sciences. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. When he was younger, he loved the Rolling Stones and the Eagles. He enjoyed working on and driving vintage and performance-type vehicles. Before moving to Hilliard, he had lived in Kalamazoo and East Lansing, Michigan; Howe, Indiana; and Kenosha, Wisconsin. Vic and Karen were married in Sturgis, Michigan, at St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church on April 3, 1982. Victor was a loving and supportive father and husband. He spent several years coaching youth sports, including soccer and baseball. He enjoyed dogs, especially his last two Springer Spaniel companions, Coco and Deuce. He was an avid sports fan of all kinds. His favorite teams were the New York Mets and the Michigan State Spartans. His favorite NASCAR driver was Bill Elliott. He enjoyed country music, especially Dwight Yoakam. After a 25+ year career as a salesman in the automobile and paper industries, Victor developed a love for Harley Davidson motorcycles. He always looked forward to an upcoming ride. He is survived by his wife, Karen (Pueschel) Vander Roest of Hilliard, Ohio; two sons, John Vander Roest of Wolcottville, Ind., and Douglas Vander Roest of Topeka, Ind.; and two brothers, James (Robin) Vander Roest and Richard Vander Roest both of Kalamazoo, Mich. In accordance with family wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebrating the life of Vic Vander Roest will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church (St. James Memorial Chapel) in Howe, Ind., at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014. The Rev. Michael T. Fulk will officiate. A reception will follow the service at St. Mark's Parish House located at 709 3rd St. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial donation in Vic's memory consider St. Mark's Episcopal Church, P.O.
