Victoria (Vicky, Vic the Stick) Kathleen Phifer Smith was born on January 8, 1945 to the late Margaret Billups and Abraham Phifer in Roselle, New Jersey. An outgoing child, and the 11th of 14 kids, Vicky attended Roselle Public Schools and graduated from Abraham Clark High School in 1963.
Upon her graduation, Vicky attended business school in Newark, New Jersey, and in 1966 she met and married the late Dennis Smith, Sr, with whom she had three children, Wanda, Dennis II, and David. Always dedicated to family, Vicky spent much of her life ensuring those around her were supported and accepted, playing an active role in helping raise her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Among many things, Vicky found incredible joy in traveling with those she loved. Camping and trips to Florida in the summer were a consistent part of her life, providing everlasting memories. She could often be found listening and singing along to her favorite music, or playing games with friends and family, whether it be a game of Uno or putting together a 1000-piece puzzle.
Vicky also had a big heart, regularly volunteering at local food pantries no matter where she called home. Vicky spent most of her professional career at Chelsea Piers Sports Camp; Entertainment Complex in Manhattan, New York where she worked dutifully as a Purchasing Agent.
Vicky accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She was baptized at Holy Mountain Church in Rahway, New Jersey, and throughout her life was member of a number of churches before settling at Lighthouse Christian Fellowship in East Brunswick, New Jersey.
Even as her health began to falter, Vicky maintained her positive attitude and beautiful spirit. Regularly planning and playing host to family gatherings at Hall’s Corner, she was always central to bringing the family together.
Vicky passed away peacefully on March 6, 2022. She is predeceased by her husband Dennis, seven brothers, four sisters, and one grandson, James.
