Vileda Davis, a loving wife, mother and friend to many, passed away from complications of a brain bleed. The exact cause of the bleeding in her brain was undetermined. Vileda was born on July 22, 1942 in the small town of Dunham, KY. She met her future husband, James B Davis, Jr. on the other side of the Jenkins mountain when they were in their teens and they later married and moved to Northern VA. They celebrated 55 years of marriage earlier this year. They had two children, David Allen and Karen Renee.
Vileda deeply loved and often celebrated her children and 5 grandchildren, Stephen, Patrick, Krista, Rachel and Audrey. Karen and her children remain in Northern Virginia and Vileda and James have often braved the elements and the horrific NOVA traffic to attend each and every event or activity that their two granddaughters, Rachel and Audrey participated in. It didn't matter how big or small the event was, they were there and ready to celebrate their grandchildren's accomplishments. They traveled far to see their other grandchildren as well. Vileda found so much joy in her family.
Vileda was a woman who loved God and was in constant service to her faith and her community. She was always volunteering at her children's school and in their activities when her kids were young, bringing food to neighbors and members of her church congregation, etc, at times of both sadness and celebration. She was a creative soul and enjoyed doing arts and crafts and gardening with a passion.
In 1987, Vileda suffered a brain aneurysm that almost took her life at 42 years of age. She spent the next several days in a coma and miraculously defied great odds against her survival. She would spend a total of 5 months in hospitals and rehab recovering from the initial stroke, brain surgery and therapy. She faced many challenges as a result of the anuerysm, but they did not stop her from continuing to life life, spread joy and love her family and friends with everything she had. Despite their grief in such a loss, her family is grateful for being granted an additional 31 years with her.
It was her wish to have her body donated to science/research so that others may experience greater wellness and quality of life. There will be a Celebration of Life ceremony on Saturday, January 12 from 4pm-5pm at:
The Lake House Community Center, 11450 Baron Cameron Ave., Reston, VA
A nearby reception will follow.
