Vinnie Jeannette ReedOxnard, CAVinnie Jeannette Reed, 84, of Oxnard passed away June 29th,2017 at her home. She was born on March 28, 1933, in Naples, Texas. Oxnard became her home in the early forties."Remembering the happy times" Vinnie graduated from Oxnard High in 1949. She began her working career in health care, andworked at the Ventura School for Girls. In 1966, she joined the Ventura County Sheriff's Department, becoming the counties first female of African American decent to hold the position of Deputy Sheriff. Wanting to refine her skills and knowledge on the job she pursued and earned an Associates of Arts degree in Criminal Justice from Ventura College while on the job. After retiring, Vinnie became a world traveler to various places in the United States, Hawaii, Alaska, Asia, Europe, The Middle East and Caribbean Islands. Vinnie was multi-talented, quilting was her favorite pastime along with cooking. Her favorite song was "I Won't Complain". She was an active member of the New Community Bible Mission Church of God in Christ In Oxnard. Also, a member of the Eastern Star. Vinnie was preceded in death by her beloved husband U.G. Reed and daughter Randi Reed, her parents Vinnie and Gladys Cameron, brothers Aaron, Alvin and Charles. Sisters Georgia Martin Faye Cameron (Alvin). Our Mother and Sister Vinnie is survived by her loving sons Sterling, Richard and grandson Isaiah Reed. Brothers Andrew (Juana), and Dennis Martin (Georgia), sisters Alice Holmes (Robert), Paulette Hicks (Melvin), Martha Gilbert (Allen), Hanunah (Sarah/Moe) Furqan and Gertrude Cameron (Charles). A host of nieces, nephews and many cousins and friends who loved her dearly. At Vinnie's request there will be no memorial services. Arrangements and final disposition are under the direction of Ivy Lawn Memorial Park.
