Viorica “Ica” Stummer, 73, of Dobbs Ferry, passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of December 2nd, 2019 at the Briarcliff Manor Memory Care Facility, after a gradual decline in health due to Alzheimer’s disease. She was constantly surrounded and supported by her loving family and amazing caregivers during the last 7 years of her life.
Ica’s journey began on August 24, 1946, in Petrila, Romania with her parents Elisabeta and Nicolae Olariu. She grew up in a small town in Transylvania, next to her siblings Maria and Valeria. She graduated from Petrila High School in 1964 and worked as a staff accountant at Petrosani Municipal Hospital for 30 years.
Ica met the love of her life, Ernest Ferdinand Stummer in high school and the love birds got married a few years later. They settled in Petrosani, Transylvania Province, Romania and built a wonderful life together. One daughter was born from this union, who was the most important part of their lives. In 1994, Ernest moved to Manville, New Jersey and Ica joined him a few years later. They lived there together for almost two decades. Ica loved spending time with her family, cooking, reading novels, watching tennis matches, summer vacations at the Black Sea and, later in life, visiting her daughter in New York, taking care of the new family member, husky Yuri and playing with her granddaughter. Ica was empowering and social, raising her daughter to believe that she could accomplish anything and instilling the knowledge to be successful. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
Ica was preceded in her death by her husband, Ernest, who passed away in October 2017 and her sisters Mary and Vali. She is survived by her daughter, Erna, son-in-law, Christian Bilius, granddaughter, Kristen Isabella Bilius, and husky, Yuri.
The visitation is from 3 pm to 8 pm on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at O’Shea-Hoey Funeral Home, located at 2913 Ditmars Blvd. Astoria, NY 11105. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm on Friday, December 6, 2019, also at the O’Shea-Hoey Funeral Home.
