Virgie Lee Young-Holman, age 97, was born on March 4, 1927, in Henning, TN, to the late Army Young and Annie Mae Ferguson.
She passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024.
Virgie accepted Christ at an early age and dedicated her life to her faith, family, and the joys of life. A passionate basketball enthusiast, she cherished both the game and her loved ones.
In 1976, Virgie moved her family from Memphis, Tennessee, to Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She held various jobs throughout her life, ultimately retiring from Woolworth Department Store in downtown Minneapolis in 1993.
Virgie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Laydell Holman, sister Dorthy Harris, and children Nathan Lee Holman, Charles Holman, Laydell Holman Jr., Marilyn Holman, Geraldine Holman, and Gloria Bell.
She was also predeceased by her grandchildren
Joseph Holman, Dianna Jackson, and Lasheba Holman.
She is survived by her brother Leroy Young (Chicago, IL); daughters Cynthia Surratt (Finger, TN), Brenda Holman (Minneapolis, MN), Linda Holman (Minneapolis, MN), Glenda Alexander (Warren, MN), and Virgie Oneatha Perteet (Duane) (Minneapolis, MN);
Daughter-in-law Gracie Holman; and sons Delano Holman (Sandra (Isanti, MN) and llyass Tariq (Musalawati) (Minneapolis, MN).
Virgie is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
