Wilke, VirgilVirgil Alexander Wilke, age 91, of Chili, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2017 in Palliative Care at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Owen. Pastor will officiate. Interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Lublin American Legion Post #547, Owen American Legion Post #123 and the Owen-Withee Vets Club. Family and friends are welcome from 1:00 p.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home.Virgil was born on December 12, 1925, the son of Otto and Nina (Stephens) Wilke in Dorchester. He was united in marriage to Ellen Worstell on June 26, 1970 in Rockford, IL. Virgil was a Marine and veteran of World War II. He served in B Battery, 15th Marine Artillery Division. The 6th Marine Division was formed in September of 1944 and has a unique history. Virgil was part of this division, serving in Okinawa and Guam, taking part in battles in Yae-Take and Sugar Loaf Hill and being awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. The 6th Marine Division was disbanded shortly after the war and never stepped foot on American shores, since being formed and disbanded.Virgil was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He loved listening to Country and Western music, fishing, hunting and helping care for his handicapped grandson, Alexander Drinka. Virgil enjoyed living his life to the fullest; there was nothing he wouldn't try to tackle.Virgil is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ellen Wilke; children: James (Roxanne) Wilke of Marshfield, Arlyn Wilke of Spencer, Garry Wilke of Marshfield and Marlea (Tom) Ator of Washington. He is further survived by his sister, June Heineman of MN, his brother, Robert (Norene) Durbin of Withee; two sons-in-law, Timothy Jasmer of Withee and Lucas Mikkelsen of Glen Flora; several grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Verlyn (Joan) Wilke, his sister, Vivian (Randall) Anderson; his daughters, Barbara Jasmer and Brenda Mikkelsen; his son, Brian Wilke; niece, Donna Haffey; nephew, Dusty Rahn and great-grandson, Giovanni Roberts.Friends may send online condolences to
