ST. JOE — Virginia Rose Helbert, 91, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler. Mrs. Helbert was a 1942 graduate of St. Joe High School in St. Joe. She was a member of Christ's Church in Butler. She was born on April 18, 1923, in DeKalb County to Donel and Lelah (Cook) Ayers. She married Robert Helbert on July 22, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1997. Surviving are three sons, Dennis (Carol) Helbert and Danny (Laura) Helbert, all of Butler, and Donel (Tina) Helbert of Auburn; two daughters, Cheryl (Randy) Staley of Waterloo and Nancy (John) Lapp of Hamilton; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Doris Ayers of Kendallville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Ayers. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Smith & Brown Funeral Home, Hicksville, Ohio, with Pastor Dale Rabineau officiating. Burial will be in Alton Cemetery at St. Joe. Visitation will be today from 3-8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Saturday. Memorials are to Christ's Church.
