HAVEN-Hoskinson, Virginia L. (Chain) 93, passed to eternal life at Pleasant View Home, Inman, Kansas, on November 26, 2016. She was born on November 21, 1923, on the family farm near Haven, Kansas, to Ralph and Mamie (Henderson) Chain. She Virginia graduated from Haven High School and attended Salt City Business College. She married Cecil L. Hoskinson on December 30, 1945. He passed away March 19, 2006. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Mamie Chain; older sister, Chlodene Matlack; brother-in-law, Everett Matlack; sister-in-law, Gynetha Chain; nieces, Mary Kopfman and Phyllis Chain; and great nephew, Luke Schemm. Survivors include: a brother, Warren Chain, of Guymon, Oklahoma; a sister, Dixie Schemm (Vernon) of Sharon Springs, Kansas; daughters, Jane (Rick) Tolin and June Krell, of Haven, Kansas; and a son, James M. (Mike) Hoskinson (Heidi) of Claremore, Oklahoma. Virginia had four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Virginia grew up on the family farm southwest of Haven, Kansas. She served as Haven's post master, worked for Cessna during WWII, and was the secretary at Partridge Grade School. She was a member of Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. She was a devoted mother and farm wife and had a wide variety of interests including farming, raising livestock, gardening, carpentry work, writing poetry, painting, reading, quilting, playing the violin, genealogy, and traveling. She will always be remembered for her belief in hard work, family pride, and her firm set of principles. Cremation has taken place. At Virginia's request, there will not be a formal service. A private, family memorial service will be held at a later date and her ashes will be scattered on the family farm where she was born and raised. Friends may call Thursday, December 1, 2016, from 4pm to 7pm, with the family to receive friends from 5pm to 7pm at Ott Funeral Home, Haven.
