Virginia Lee Wheaton of National City passed away peacefully at home with her loving family and hospice by her side on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, age 78 years. Virginia was born on Jan. 27, 1935 in Corning, Ark. to Robert and Bessie (Button) Howard. She married Gerry Wheaton on April 19, 1969 in Pontiac. She was employed by General Motors Company in Pontiac for 24 years, retiring in May 1991. Soon after retirement, she and Gerry moved to the Sand Lake area to enjoy their retirement years together.Those who knew Virginia will always remember how she truly enjoyed knitting, crocheting, playing euchre, both vegetable and flower gardening and her true talent to cook! Most importantly, she absolutely cherished and adored her grandchildren and great granddaughter. Virginia is survived by her loving husband, Gerry Wheaton of National City; one son, Michael Wheaton of National City; one daughter, Sheila (David) Williams of Sand Lake; three grandchildren, David Williams Jr. and fiancé Breeonna Kennedy, Ashlee Lynn Williams and Jordan Anderson; one great granddaughter, Meecsha Williams; three sisters, Stella (Ralph) Hunley of Jacksboro, Tenn., Jan Laster of White Lake and Marie (Darrell) Thompson of Campbell, Mo.; her mother-in-law, Evelyn Marie Wheaton of Tawas City; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends whom she loved so much. Virginia was preceded in death by four brothers, Robert Howard, Earmon Howard, Carmon Howard and Jerry Howard; and two sisters, Doris Nesvold and Connie Popovits. A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10 at 1 p.m. at Buresh Funeral Home in Hale with Reverend Gary E. Hunley officiating. Her family will welcome friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m. until the funeral time for visitation Interment will take place in Esmond Evergreen Cemetery.
