Walmar Herman HohmannSan AngeloWalmar Herman Hohmann went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017. He passed away at Shannon Hospital.Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Wall Brethren Church, 7921 Texas Loop 570, in Wall, officiated by Rev. Tommy Tallas. Burial will follow in Johnson's Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Johnson's Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the Funeral Home. Walmar was born on Aug. 24, 1927, in Fredericksburg, Texas, to Walmar Ben and Sophie (Wilke) Hohmann. In 1945, he joined the Merchant Marines and served approximately two and a half years. He came to San Angelo in 1950 and worked as a refrigeration mechanic at Central Electric Company. In 1953, he started Angelo Refrigeration and Restaurant Supply with his twin brother, Wallace. Walmar and his brothers, Wallace and James, operated the business for many years. After 40 successful years of business, Walmar retired in 1992. Upon retirement, he enjoyed raising exotic wildlife and attending wildlife sales and meetings. Among the items on his bucket list was to go to Africa to see the wildlife, which he and Sharon achieved in 2001. Included in his travels were trips to Australia, New Zealand, several times to Europe, Canada, Alaska, and many locations in the United States, as well as mission trips to Central America.On Oct. 9, 1953, Walmar was married to Georgia (Wilkens) Hohmann until her death in 1997. Their children are Sherri Hohmann Brown and her husband, Rodney Brown, of San Angelo; Dr. Linda Hohmann of San Angelo, and Janna Hohmann Ratliff and her husband, Michael Ratliff, of Colorado City, Texas. Walmar married Sharon (Chlapek) Hohmann on March 18, 1999, and added a son, Mark Waggoner. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Travis and his wife Alexis, Jacob and his wife Bess, Christopher, Lauren, and Micaela Brown, Chase and his wife Kylie Ratliff, and Cole Ratliff; four great-grandchildren, Ingrid and Asher Brown, and Audrey and Abby Ratliff. Other survivors include his sisters, Alice and her husband Jay Bingham, and Erline and her husband Dr. Allan Sager, and many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.Walmar was preceded in death by his wife Georgia, his parents, and his siblings Doris Inman, William, James, Wallace, and Dayton Hohmann.Pallbearers will be Michael, Chase, and Cole Ratliff, Rodney, Travis, Jacob, and Christopher Brown, and Wally Hohmann. Honorary pallbearers are East Angelo Lions Club Members, Steve Hohmann, Darrell Hohmann, Roy Martin, and Jerry Mullenix.Walmar was an active, 50 year member of the East Angelo Lions Club, serving in many capacities. He enjoyed working at the local Pancake Breakfasts and the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. He enjoyed riding in parades with the Tom Green County Sheriff's Posse. He volunteered in 4-H, CASA, and other organizations. In recent times, he and Sharon enjoyed eating out at breakfast at Kenny Blanek's Village Cafe and the Dunbar Restaurant, where his favorite waitresses served him hot chocolate. Walmar was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Wall Brethren Church.Walmar was a loving and caring husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. We thank God for the blessing he was to all.The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Chris Barnett, Dr. Luis Duarte, Baptist Memorial, and Shannon Hospital for their compassionate care for Walmar and for his family.
