Walter Disney was born December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois, and departed this life Thursday, December 15, 1966, reaching the age of 65. He was the son of the late Elias and Flora (Call) Disney. He served his country in the Red Cross Ambulance Corps during WWl.
He was married to Lillian Bounds, for more than 40 years; and to this union one child was born and one adopted. Walt was creative. innovative and a pioneer in all things cartoon and animation. He pursued various professions including animation; entrepreneurship; film and television screenwriting, directing, editing, and producing; voice and film acting; illustrating; inventing; painting; business; and overall entertainment. While his career was successful, the most content achievement through his eyes was being a father to his children.
He is survived by: three siblings, Raymond Disney, Roy Disney (his life-long business partner), and Ruth Disney; two daughters, Diane (Ron) Miller and Sharon (William); ten grandchildren, Walter Miller, Christopher Miller, Jennifer Miller-Goff, Tamara Scheer, Joanna Miller, Patrick Miller, Ronald Miller, Victoria Brown, Michelle Lund, and Brad Lund; along with a host of family and friends who mourn his passing. He was preceeded in death by his late parents, Elias and Flora Disney; and brother, Herbert Disney.
Walt leaves behind a legacy that brings joy to millions.
Funeral services will be private. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the California Institutes of the Arts, care of Walt Disney Productions.
