Walter Martin Hisenberg, age 67, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 1, 2017. Walt was born on May 9, 1949 in his family home in Tularosa, a place and a childhood he recently published a book about. He graduated from Tularosa High School in 1967. He attended and graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Sociology in 1972. He later obtained a Masters degree in Public Administration from UNM. Walt retired from the State of NM after 25 years, most recently in the State Forestry Division, where one of his passions was fighting forest fires, which he continued to consult on after retirement. He was involved in many things after retirement but one of the most important to him was helping at the St Francis De Paula Church in Tularosa. Walt always enjoyed the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved to cook and entertain his friends and family and share his many stories. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Lucia Hisenberg, his brothers Tony and Chris Brusuelas and his sister Rita Nickerson, all originally of Tularosa. He is survived by his son, Greg Hisenberg, daughter-in-law Karen and grandchildren Samuel and Lucia, of Boston, Massachusetts and Anita Rael Hisenberg, mother of Greg. Walt is also survived by a number of cherished sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, and many other beloved relatives. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Francis De Paula Church in Tularosa (
www.stfrancisdepaulachurch.org) or the Carmelite Monastery of Santa Fe (
www.carmelofsantafe.org). A Rosary will be held on Thursday, April 6th at 10:30AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00AM, both at St Francis De Paula Church in Tularosa.
