Walter R. Gilchrist91, of Indianapolis, passed away on December 14, 2016.  He was born on May 2, 1925 to the late Emerson and Eula (King) Gilchrist. Walter was lovingly married to Dorothy for over 70 years. A graduate of Howe High School, he was employed as a manufacturing representative at La-Z- Boy furniture for 25 years. Walter served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Highland Country Club and enjoyed summers at Lake Wawasee.A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Brothers Fishers-Castleton Chapel, 9900 Allisonville Rd. with visitation from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.Walter is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy; daughters, Karon Preston (Harry) and Kathy Hershberger (Roger); grandchildren, Lisa Mitchell (Chris), Doug Preston, Elizabeth Ratliff (Randy), Brian Hollingshead (Erin); great-grandchildren, Cody, Ashley, Bryce, Chase, Dory, Carter, Cole and Palmer.  He was preceded in death by son, Kenneth Gilchrist and sister, June Bostic.Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Indianapolis, 7929 N.
