WALTER SCHROEDER
COLUMBUS GROVE — Walter F. Schroeder, 93, died at 7:25 am, on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at the Meadows of Kalida.
He was born on January 13, 1923, to Gerhard F. and Martha M. (Konst) Schroeder. They both preceded him in death.
On August 4, 1948, he married Alice M. Hempfling. Alice survives in Columbus Grove.
Walter is also survived by three sons: Roger (Sharon) Schroeder and Dwain (Anne) Schroeder both of Columbus Grove, and Eugene (Karen) Schroeder of Granville; three daughters: Kathleen (William) Beattie of Little Rock, AR, Debra (Michael) Sennet of Miamisburg and Karen (Bob) Driver of Livermore, CA; 17 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; one brother: Kenneth (Virginia) Schroeder of Columbus Grove; two sisters: Agnes (Robert) Utendorf of Columbus Grove and Alice (Don) Evans of Columbus, NC, and a sister in-law: Angela Schroeder of Bluffton.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Ralph (Beatrice) Schroeder, Donald (Helen) Schroeder and Melvin Schroeder; and one sister Doris (Richard) Koch.
Mr. Schroeder retired in 1988 from the Lima Correctional Institution, as a Steam Engineer. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked as a plumber. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. He was a U.S. Army, WWII veteran, serving in Guam and Saipan. Walter had enjoyed woodworking, storytelling, and most of all, he enjoyed his family.
Mass of Christian burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, October 31, 2016, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Columbus Grove. Father Tom Extejt will officiate, with burial to follow in the Church cemetery.
Family and friends may call from 2:00-8:00 p.m., on Sunday, October 30, 2016, at Hartman Sons Funeral Home, Columbus Grove. A prayer service will be held at the close of visitation.
