Walter E. Walt Wheeler1923 - 2013Walter E. Walt Wheeler, 90, of Kenosha passed away on Tuesday Aug. 13, 2013, at Hospice House in Pleasant Prairie. Walter was born on March 18, 1923, in Casper, Wyo., the son of the late Forest and Alice (Moss) Wheeler. He was a member of the U.S. Navy, serving during WWII. He was educated in the schools of Wyoming, and graduated from the University of Colorado with a degree in psychology and Colorado State University with a Masters Degree in Adult Education. He also did advanced studies at Columbia University, New York City. He married Marion Adelle Smith on May 16, 1954, in Denver, CO. He was employed as a Civil Service Administrator for the Hospital Corps School at Great Lakes Naval Base for many years. He was a member of St. Matthew Episcopal Church. Walt loved to grow special flowers in his garden, was an avid jazz fan, and collected rare stamps and coins. Walt served as volunteer for many public projects. He was a tutor with Kenosha Literacy Council, also for many years he was the coordinator of volunteers from St. Matthews Episcopal Church who served at the Shalom Soup Kitchen every month. Survivors include his wife, Marion Adelle Wheeler of Kenosha; a son, Riley Scott Wheeler of Houston, Tex.; and a daughter, Linda Christine Erdmann of Fox Lake, Ill. He was preceded in death by a son, David Wheeler, and a sister, Dorothy. A visitation will be held on Monday Aug. 19, 2013, at St. Matthews Episcopal Church from 1-2 p.m. with services to follow at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Matthews Episcopal Church or the Shalom Center would be appreciated.
