Walter Henderson Wolfe CHARLOTTE - Walter Henderson Wolfe, age 97, passed away peacefully at his home on November 22, 2016. Walter was born on September 11, 1919, in Pleasant Valley, S.C., the last of 8 children born to James Richard and Minnie Wolfe of Lancaster County, S.C. His seven siblings and his beloved wife, Harriet Faulkner Wolfe, preceded him in death after a wonderful and happy marriage of 66 years. Walter served 5 years in the Army Air Corps during World War II. After the war, he lived in Charlotte where he became a self-made man remaining active for over 67 years in both public accounting and development of real estate rental properties. He became a Master Mason in 1957 and was committed to helping crippled children through his lifelong association with the Oasis Shriners where he was the active treasurer for 19 years and remained Treasurer Emeritus until his death. He was a long time member of Providence United Methodist Church. Walter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived his life by the Golden Rule. He enjoyed an active social life and had an adventurous spirit. He enjoyed golfing, surf fishing, and big game hunting. He learned to slalom water ski at 66 years of age. He and Harriet particularly enjoyed dancing and traveling, visiting 45 different countries for pleasure. Walter will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Walter is survived by his son Walter H. Wolfe, Jr. of Tallahassee, daughter Joan W. Smith (Oswald) of Charlotte, son Richard H. Wolfe of Charlotte, son J. Alan Wolfe (Liz) of Atlanta, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. His beloved sister-in-law and her husband, Edith and William Lee of Clinton, N.C, also survive him.
