Wayne Anthony Parnell, 65, passed away on November 7, 2024, in Bridgeport, CT. Born on August 14, 1959, Wayne was a high-spirited soul known for his sharp wit, intelligence, and overwhelming kindness.
Wayne grew up in Cedarhurst, Long Island, graduated from Lawrence High School and later embarked on a career in the poker industry. He began his professional journey playing poker in Las Vegas, a city that matched his vibrant and energetic personality. In 2002, he relocated to California, where he continued his career in the world of poker as a dealer at Ocean's Eleven in Oceanside. Wayne moved to Connecticut in 2020, where he spent his final years.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Wayne was an avid creator, known for his tie-dyed clothing and heartfelt poems. Dancing was one of his greatest joys and he would break out in dance, anywhere-anytime-any music. His desire to have a dance-off with Michael Jackson was a testament to his playful spirit and infectious energy. He was known affectionately as the "pet whisperer". Wayne's gentle and compassionate nature drew animals to him. Wayne was deeply connected to animals, including his beloved pets Potimus, Missy, Zuzu, and Bugsy.
Wayne's life motto, "Don't give up-Don't ever give up," demonstrates his resilience in life and in his gallant fight until the very end. He leaves behind a loving family, including his sisters, Toni Mancusso, and Dale (Bill) Pike; his brother Bruce Parnell; his main champion Paul Chapillo; and his best friend Virginia (Gigi) Parnell; along with his ten nieces and nephews and eleven great-nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Anthony E. Parnell, and his mother, Jacqueline (Klein) Parnell. Wayne's life will be celebrated privately by his family and close friends.
Wayne's life was a tapestry of laughter, creativity, and perseverance. The world will be less colorful without his presence and his absence will be felt deeply by those who knew him best.
