Mar 29, 1935 - Jan 16, 2017
This obituary is administered by:
Steinberg, Wayne D.Wayne D. Steinberg, 82, of Appleton, WI passed away peacefully and entered his eternal home on October 16, 2017. He was born on March 29, 1935 in Two Rivers, WI to the late John and Viola (Diedrich) Steinberg. He married the love of his life Joan Luepke 62 years ago at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Appleton, WI where they remain lifelong members. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1953 and later in life was actively involved in his class reunion committee. Wayne served in the Wisconsin National Guard Red Arrow Division for 3 years, where he obtained the rank of Corporal. After attending college, he also served in the
Army Reserve as Staff Sergeant E5, training men in the field until 1963. Later, he started working for his Dad's business, Northwest Supply Company in Appleton. In 1982, Wayne founded Metro Sales of Appleton (where he worked until his retirement in 1996), as well as serving as a financial secretary at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Many knew Wayne as full of life: spreading laughter and happiness with his contagious smile, while always cracking a joke. Wayne followed all Wisconsin sports teams, especially the Green Bay Packers. He loved golfing, snowmobiling, bowling, dancing to polka music, as well as hunting deer and birds. Most of all, his favorite past time was fishing; he spent many days on the water chasing muskies, salmon, walleye, and perch. He enjoyed sharing this experience with his children and grandchildren. Wayne's family room is filled with some of his most impressive catches, which serve as a testament to how passionate he was about this sport. Throughout his adult life, Wayne's greatest passion and accomplishment was his family. He was a wonderful provider and fierce protector. This was demonstrated by his selfless decision to raise his nephew Stan, along with his two nieces Stacy and Sally after a tragic accident in 1977 which claimed the lives of his brother Richard and sister-in-law Sandy. Wayne is survived by his wife Joan, his children Susan (Steve) Jeffers and their children Ashley (fiancé Adam), Alyssa, Cory (Stacy), and Ryan (Jen); Thomas (Hope Didier) Steinberg, and their children Noah, Sylvia, and Evan; Stacy (Alan) Timm and their children Brett and Derek; Sally (Shawn) Litscher; and the late Stan Steinberg's children Ryan (Megan) Steinberg and their son Oliver; Jon (fiancé Megan) Steinberg and their mother Peggy Conrad. Wayne is further survived by his brother Edward, sister Patricia Hamilton, brother-in-law Charles (Julie) Luepke, sister-in-law Joyce Schuldes, 10 great-grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings; Janis Foate and William Steinberg. Funeral service to be held on Saturday October 21st at St. Paul Lutheran Church (302 N. Morrison St. Appleton) at 10 AM with visitation from 8 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Wayne's name to benefit St. Paul Lutheran Ministries or Fox Valley Lutheran High School. Wayne's family wishes to extend our appreciation to the staff at Living Tree Estates and Affinity Hospice for their care and compassion for him during his struggle with Parkinson's disease.
