MOUNT JOY Wayne E. Hanawalt, 86, passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at Manor Care Health Services of Elizabethtown. He was born on Thursday, November 3, 1927, in Vernon, Ohio, to the late Ray and Helen Hanawalt. Wayne was a
United States Navy Veteran of
WWII. He also served aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge during its world tour. He was retired from AMP, Inc., where he worked in production control. He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching TV westerns, sports, and camping. He was also a former troop leader for the Boy Scouts of America. Surviving are his wife, Carol J. Hanawalt, to whom he would have been married 40 years on November 25, 2014; a son, Wayne T. Hanawalt and his wife, Judy of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Sherry A. Hunt and her husband, Jeffrey of York; two stepsons, Randy E. Mundy and his wife, Brenda of Elizabethtown, and Matthew C. Mundy and his wife, Judie of Elizabethtown; 10 grandchildren; four step grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren; and a sister, Kay Wilson of Vienna, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Naomi Hanawalt; a brother; and two sisters. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014, in the Miller-Sekely Funeral Home & Crematory of Elizabethtown. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
