Wayne EdmundsonWayne Leonard Edmundson, age 80, of Garretson, died on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, at the Palisades Healthcare Community in Garretson. A memorial visitation will begin at 4:00 pm Sunday, December 18, 2016, with a Prayer Service at 5:30 pm at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson. Wayne's ashes will be scattered in the Montana Mountains this coming summer.Wayne was born on July 1, 1936, to Leonard and Bernice "Babe" (Bogenrief) Edmundson, on the family farm in Rock County, Minnesota. He attended grade school district #52, a small country school near their farm. He graduated from Garretson High School in 1954, where he lettered in all sports, but excelled in football. His senior class motto was, "It is better to live one day as a lion, than one hundred as a sheep." Wayne married Sharon Rademacher at Palisades Lutheran Church in 1957. They had three children, Rick, Lynn, & Jon. He played on the Garretson softball team as a young man. Wayne farmed all his life in Rock and Minnehaha Counties.Wayne married Barbara Merkley Barger on December 23, 1984. After their marriage, the coupled moved to Garretson, where they made many fond memories traveling to the numerous High School activities of Jon, Nikki, and Scott. Wayne was active in his community and served on the board of directors of the Garretson Farmer's Coop for many years. Wayne was an avid hunter and fisherman, but especially loved his South Dakota hunting and fishing trips with his son Jon. He made many long road trips to Montana, where he looked forward to tagging the next big elk or buck. Wayne always made it a priority to attend his grandchildren's high school activities. But most of all, Wayne loved his family. They were his everything.Survivors include his wife, Barbara, Garretson; children: Richard (Lori) Edmundson, Harrison, MT, Lynn (Eugene) Coughlin, Helmville, MT, and Jon (Renee) Edmundson, Garretson; step-children: Nikki Barger, Portland, OR and Scott (Jodi) Barger, Helmville, MT; grandchildren: Corey, Tucker, Travis, Lacey, Shannon, Levi, McKenzie, Cooper, Trever, and Tyler; step-grandchildren: Riley, Jessy, and Alaina; eleven great grandchildren; and a brother, LeMoyne (Donna) Edmundson, Garretson. He was preceded in death by his parents.The family would like to thank everyone who called and visited during Wayne's illness. It was greatly appreciated.
