MT. PLEASANT - Wayne Joseph Obernberger, 78, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2013. Wayne J. Obernberger was born on March 24, 1935 to the late Alfred and Jeanette (nee:Dederich) Obernberger in Racine. He was united in marriage to his loving wife, Carol (nee: Niesen) on April 23, 1960. Wayne was a devoted member to St. Josephs Catholic Parish for many years. He loved bowling and golfing and really loved watching the Green Bay Packers. Wayne also had a passion for hunting. His passion for sports mixed with his even greater love for his family when Wayne would watch his childrens and grandchildrens games. In 1988, Wayne founded the O&W Grinding Inc. There he worked with his son and eventually his grandson. Wayne was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He always placed his family first because they were most important to him. Wayne will be dearly missed by his wife, Carol Obernberger; his children, Beth (Chris) Thode, Steven (Pat) Obernberger, Michael (Joyce) Obernberger, Wayne (Janice) Obernberger; his grandchildren, Kristi and Nicholas Lichtenwalner, Alex Thode, Megan (Dan) Dudzik, Alex Obernberger, Caitlin and Jeremy Obernberger, Erik, Rachel, and Allison Obernberger; great grandsons, Johnny Merten and Benjamin Dudzik; brothers, Fred (Pat) Obernberger, David (Bonnie) Obernberger; sisters and brothers-in-law, Loretta (Jerry) Sackman, Frances Cullen (Gary Weiss), Deanna (Dennis) Rybarik, Arlene (Dominick) LoPiccolo, Gilbert (Kathleen) Niesen, Jill Niesen (Lynn McMann); his special friends Louie (Bev) Sorenson, and Ken (Joan) Morien; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his mother and father, Alfred and Jeanette Obernberger; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Sarah Obernberger; his niece Susan Obernberger; mother and father-in-law, Gilbert and June Niesen; and his brother-in-law, Thomas Cullen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 1532 N. Wisconsin St. on Tuesday morning, August 13, 2013 at 11am with Fr. Steve Varghese celebrating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at Wilson Funeral Home on Monday evening, August 12, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00pm with a prayer service starting at 8:30pm and on Tuesday morning at the church from 10:00 am until the 11 am Mass.
