Werner Egon Egloff passed away peacefully on Dec. 12, 2016, in Bozeman, Montana.Werner was born on Feb. 5, 1928, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Dr. Wilhelm and Hedwig Egloff. Werner completed his apprenticeship in restaurant and hotel management in the early 1950s in Germany and in 1955 immigrated to the United States. By 1960, he found his way to Alaska. After working at various restaurants and hotels in Anchorage, he settled in Girdwood, Alaska, running the food service for Mount Alyeska Ski Resort. In 1971, Werner met Leslie Norquist of Bellevue, Washington. They married in 1972, the same year Werner opened The Bake Shop at the base of Mount Alyeska. Werner and Leslie raised three children in Girdwood while running The Bake Shop. During this time, Werner was an integral part of the Girdwood Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief from 1976 to 1986. He was also an active member of the Girdwood City Council and participated in the Greater Anchorage Beautification. In 1997, Werner sold The Bake Shop. At this time, Werner and Leslie purchased their first camper and enjoyed many years of travel and adventure. By 2001 they were ready to settle down and moved to Bozeman, Montana, to be closer to family and grandchildren. Werner was a Master Gardener, active in the Gallatin Gardener's Club, and enjoyed woodworking in his retirement. Werner is survived by his wife, Leslie Egloff, of Bozeman; his son, Wilhelm Egloff (Stacey Dolezal) of Tualatin, Oregon and their children Emerson, Harper and Elias; son, Karl Egloff (Sara Egloff) of Great Falls, Virginia and their children Davis, Brandt, Karoline and Elise; and daughter, Robyn Egloff (Kevin Jacobsen) of Bozeman and their children Fiona, Jasper and Tobi. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Wilhelm and Hedwig Egloff, brother Karl Egloff, and sister Johanna Egloff.Mr. Egloff will be buried in a private ceremony in Bozeman. A memorial will take place in Bozeman in the Spring.
