Wesley R. HoffmanOAK HARBOR: Wesley R. Hoffman, 86, of Oak Harbor, OH, died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Bethesda Care Center, Fremont, OH. He was born on February 16, 1930 to the late Arthur & Wanda (Windisch) Hoffman. Wesley was a 1948 graduate of the former Salem-Oak Harbor High School and was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor. He volunteered at many church events, served on several committees, and was a former member of the church council. He also enjoyed playing dartball for the church team.Wesley was an employee of the former Matthews Boat Company, Port Clinton, OH, from 1950-1964. He then worked at Brush Wellman, Elmore, OH from 1964 until he retired in 1992. Wes was very interested in aviation, beginning when he earned his private pilot's license in 1968. He owned several airplanes in his life, and thoroughly enjoyed flying them. He was a charter member of the Portage Valley Flying Club, Elmore. Wes enjoyed S.C.R.A.P. events, traveling, and camping. Active in Masonic organizations, Wes joined Oak Harbor Lodge #495, Free and Accepted Masons in 1970 and they enjoyed his many stories and fellowship for 46 years. During that time, Wes went on to join several other Masonic bodies including Oak Harbor Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, Genoa Council of Royal & Select Masons, and Fremont Commandery of Knights Templar. He was also a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Toledo, and Zenobia Shrine, both in Toledo.On January 20, 1951, he married the former Joyce O. Wohlers, and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2016. Surviving are their daughters, Patricia (Ed) Hill, Lindsey, OH, Marsha (Tom) Hill, and Sandra Hoy, both of Oak Harbor, and Cheryl Hoffman, Bowling Green, OH.Also surviving are many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.Family and friends are invited to call from 2-8 P.M. Friday at Crosser Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Oak Harbor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Oak Harbor. Rev. David A. Voll will officiate, and interment will follow at Salem Township Union Cemetery.
