Wilbert ReedGRAND COTEAU - Wilbert Martin Reed, Sr. was born on January 16, 1943 in Eunice, Louisiana to Lucius Sr. and Vivian Thomas Reed. He was raised in Bellevue, Louisiana and married Mary Ida Joseph at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Church Point Louisiana. Wilbert and Ida celebrated a married life of 52 years on February 6, 2017. He lived a life devoted to God, his wife, children, grandchildren, extended family and friends.For over 45 years, Wilbert was a devoted parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church. As a committed Christian, he believed in service and charity. In the early 1990s, he became a member of the Knights of Peter Claver, Council#238. Wilbert is well-known as the BBQ man, and was called upon by many to prepare his famous tender briskets, finger-licking ribs, and sliced chicken breasts. Wilbert loved preparing feast, and dancing with his dashing bride, Ida. A God-fearing man, Wilbert always remained strong in his faith and trust in God. After surviving a near fatal accident, Wilbert maintained his faith and trust in God through his patient and positive attitude that God would take care of him. For the last 11 ½ years, Wilbert strived to maintain his commitment to God by walking as a living example of a Christian man. He always loved to go home to the "country" in Opelousas, playing the slots at the casinos, and playing pitty pat at the all-night card parties.On March 16, 2017, with his wife, daughter and family by his bedside, Wilbert accepted God's invitation to Heaven up above.He leaves to cherish his memories, his loyal loving wife, Mary Ida Joseph Reed (Houston/Opelousas); his beloved mother in-law: Lucille Jordan Joseph (Opelousas); two children: Wilbert Martin Reed, Jr. (Houston), and Celina Bernice Reed (Pearland); four grand-children: Aspen and Ashley Texada (Houston), Sgt. Joseph Martin Andress (San Diego, CA), and Caitlin Celine Andress (Pearland); one great-grandchild: Corrie Brown; surrogate children: Charlene and Bo Gage; eight brothers: Junius (Leanna), Preston (Reola), Sidney (Meola), Joseph, Albert (Betty), Lawrence, Lucius Jr., and Johnnie Ray (Brenda); three sisters: Bertha, Luverta (James), and Hester; three brother in-laws: George Jr., Anthony, and John Joseph, Johnny Fournier, Eugene Hines, and Thomas Sonnier; four sister in-laws: Genevieve Hines, Gloria Sonnier, Beatrice DeRousselle, and Bertha Fournier; grand-godson: Lt. Desmond Fournier (Amber)of San Diego, Ca.; surrogate grandchildren: Antonio Gage (Austin), Ryan, Preston, Nolan, and Simon Fournier. Mr. Reed leaves a host of cherished friends and family to mourn and celebrate his life.The family of Mr. Wilbert M. Reed, Sr. would like to thank everyone for all the prayers, calls, food, cards, and support during their time of bereavement.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 7:30 AM to 10:15 AM Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Williams Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bellevue Memorial Park.Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Williams Funeral Home of Opelousas, 337-942-2037.
