Wilburn Bobby BaucomSan AngeloWilburn Bobby Baucom died peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017 at the age of 87.Bobby is survived by his wife of 62 years, Kitty Ward Baucom, and four sons, Wilburn Baucom II and his wife Charlene and son Clayton of Alice, Texas; Brent Baucom and wife Dana and their children Dallas and wife Brittany and son James, Hanna, Katie and husband Taylor, Steel and daughter Sterling, Maggie, and Livie of Memphis, Texas; Wendell Baucom and wife Melanie and daughters Emily and Sara and her husband Austin of Big Lake, Texas; and Joe Baucom and his wife Hilary and sons Josh and Jared of Early, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings.Bobby was born on Aug. 8, 1930 in Cross Cut, Texas to Bill and Daisy Baucom. He graduated from Williams High School in 1948, and Howard Payne College in 1957 with a BS degree and in 1958 with a MS degree. He married Kitty Ward on Dec. 9, 1954. He retired after a 33 ? year career as a tax accounting manager at GTE.He was an active member of the Downtown Lions Club for many years serving in many leadership capacities during his time with the club, including secretary from 1994-2006, treasurer in 2007, Director from 2007- 2009 and even Lion Tamer in 2003. He also received several prestigious awards as a Lion including The President Silver Award in 1990, the Jack Welch Fellowship for Lion of the Year in 2007, and the Melvin Jones Fellow in 1990. He was a Texas Lions Camp for Children Lifetime Member. He was also an ordained deacon at The Heights Baptist Church and was named Father of the Year in 1995.He is remembered by his family as a father who made life look seemingly easy. He was an extremely hard worker whose primary passion was whatever activity his boys and their friends were involved in at the time. He followed his boys in all of their athletic and agricultural pursuits, a trait he passed on to his sons as well.A visitation will be held at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, Texas from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 8th. A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 9th, at Harper Funeral Home, with the Reverend Larry Daingerfield officiating. Burial will take place in Marion Cemetery near their family land in McCulloch County.
